On the Rocks – “Fresh ingredients, capably prepared: simply a good meal”, according to the Michelin Guide 2018. Sunday night is Steak Night and Wednesday night is Mussel & Prosecco night. Meadfoot Café. This beachside restaurant does great breakfasts from 9am onwards and Wednesday night is pizza night during the Summer. Check it is open at 01803 213988 – Meadfoot Sea Road, Torquay TQ1 2LQ as it has to close in bad weather

The Cary Arms & Spa – Babbacombe Beach, Torquay TQ1 3LX – The hill down to this pub is not for the fainthearted but it is worth the effort for some breath-taking views over the beach and bay. One of our favourite pubs, it is wonderful to eat in the lovely garden and spot seals and when it gets colder there is a roaring fire in the cosy bar. The fish and chips are very good as is the rest of the menu. Booking is recommended during high season.Take some change as you need to pay for the car park at the bottom. Me & Mrs Jones – Deli, breakfast and brunch restaurant. Speciality food shop which is great for picnics. Wonderful sourdough bread and freshly made salads, quiches and pasties. The café won Taste of the West Gold for 2017/2018 11 Ilsham Road, Torquay, TQ1 2JG

Angels Tea Room, 49 Babbacombe Downs, Torquay TQ1 3LP – massive choice of home-made scones including plain, fruit, cheese, cherry, ginger, wholemeal and chocolate chip. Gluten and dairy free options also available.
Brixham: We love the Curious Kitchen, 14-16 Middle Street, Brixham TQ5 8ER, a quirky breakfast and brunch restaurant with lots of options for vegetarians, vegans and gluten/dairy free diets.
The Guardhouse Café, Berry Head Nature Reserve, Brixham TQ5 9AW – great cream teas, hot food, drinks and cakes. Award-winning with stunning location on Berry Head Nature Reserve
Simply Fish – 72-74 Fore Street, Brixham TQ5 8AF. A fish (and chips) and seafood restaurant.
Café Alf Resco, Lower Street, Dartmouth. This friendly café, tucked away in a pretty back street, has a great atmosphere and serves breakfasts, suppers, filled baguettes, pastries, toasties and summer lunchtime specials.
Bayards Cove Inn, 27 Lower Street, Dartmouth. Fresh crab sandwiches, salads and ploughman’s during the day. Steaks and seafood in the evening in this 14th century Tudor merchant’s house. Great Sunday lunches during the colder months.
The Deli at Dartmouth, 22 Duke Street, Dartmouth TQ6 9PZ. Limited seating but if it’s sunny take away one of their delicious sandwiches, salads or home-made cakes and eat it by the river.
Totnes – The Almond Thief 3-4 Webbers Yard Estate, Totnes TQ9 6JY – craft sourdough bakery and café
The Riverford Field Kitchen, Wash Farm Bungalow, Buckfastleigh, TQ11 0JU. Fabulous organic food with a menu that changes daily and is fresh from local farms. Well worth the 40-minute drive for the puddings alone but booking ahead is essential on 01803 762074
Salcombe: Winking Prawn, Beadon Road, Salcombe, TQ8 8LD. Every time we visit chic and beautiful Salcombe we always find ourselves in this beach café, with a wonderful view of North Sands where you can watch surfers or hunt for scallop shells when the tide is out. Great baguettes, salads and home-made cakes. An evening menu is also available.
